Qualifications for Elders

The reason I left you in Crete was so that you would set in order the things that remain and appoint elders in every city as I directed you— if anyone is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children of faith with no charge of wild living or rebellion. For the overseer must be blameless as God’s administrator—not arrogant, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not violent, not greedy for dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, loving what is good, self-controlled, upright, devout, disciplined. Titus 1:5-8 TLV

let women keep silent in the communities, for it is not permitted for them to speak out. Rather let them be in order, as the Torah also says. 1 Corinthians 14:34  TLV

Although women cannot teach men and be pastors, they can still play a valuable role in the body of Messiah, but speaking in the assembly is not one of them. They can teach other women and children. This doesn’t mean that women are not knowledgeable, it simply means that Elohim has given men and women different roles. The woman was found in the transgression in the beginning and mislead the man. So the man was made the head. Literally, to rule over the woman. Many can’t receive this but a woman of wisdom can. When I am visiting an assembly where they hand a woman the microphone to speak, I cringe and I feel like leaving because it is in stark opposition to scripture.

To the woman He said, “I will greatly increase your pain from conception to labor. In pain will you give birth to children. Your desire will be toward your husband, yet he must rule over you. Genesis 3:16

Likewise, older women are to be sanctified in demeanor—not backbiting or enslaved to much wine. Let them be teachers of what is good, so that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, managing their household, kind, submitted to their own husbands, so that God’s word may not be dishonored. Titus 2:3-5 TLV

Likewise, women are to adorn themselves in appropriate clothing with modesty and sound judgment—not in seductive hairstyles and gold or pearls or costly clothing, but what is suitable for women claiming godliness, through good deeds. Let a woman receive training in a quiet demeanor with complete respect for order. Let a woman receive training in a quiet demeanor with complete respect for order. But I do not allow a woman to train or dictate to a man, but to be in a quiet demeanor. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. Also Adam was not deceived but the woman—being deceived, she fell into transgression. 1 Timothy 2:9-14 TLV

From the beginning starting in the book of Genesis it is clear that Elohim made the man to teach the woman and not the other way around. In fact, scripture tells the woman to be silent in the assembly. This alone would clearly disqualify her as Pastor or any other such role in the body.

Nowhere in scripture does it say this is limited to the church or assembly. Many women have stepped into roles that are not ordained of Elohim. The world has become so liberal that when we share the truth of scripture many do not understand it.

When Paul says that “women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire” (1 Tim 2:9). Taken literally, the verse says that women should not wear their hair in braids, and should not wear gold. But few churches today think that women have to follow these rules. No one gets upset when these details are ignored. Although “costly” is hard to define, some of the clothing worn to churches today would more than likely violate what Paul writes.

The Woman Who Fears Yehovah

An accomplished woman who can find? Her value is far beyond rubies. Her husband’s heart trusts in her, and he lacks nothing valuable. She brings him good and not harm all the days of her life. Proverbs 31:10-12

Yeshua never commissioned women to preach or teach. Women can have various responsibilities within ministry but being a “Preacher,” is not one of them. One main reason that women should not preach or teach is that there was no woman appointed as an apostle.

Preaching is reserved for men. Yet we must not confuse this function with witnessing or sharing. To take a platform today as a “Preacher” at a church or conference with a mixed audience is in clear violation of having authority over men. (1 Tim. 2:12)
